- 32 years' experience as a registered nurse and midwife in numerous NHS and private hospitals specialising in fertility treatments.
Throughout my nursing career since 1996 I have always focused on women’s health. This has ranged from gynecology, midwifery, and fertility.
In 2018 I had a change and managed a team of nurses in the community and have learned chemotherapy and biologics treatment as well as managing remotely from home.
In 2021, I returned to fertility practice as a nurse manager.
Fertility experience
I have worked in 3 units. It was at Edinburgh Fertility Unit where I learned the basic skills of being a fertility nurse.
This included:
- ›Nurse consultations
- ›Assisting in oocyte recovery/ embryo transfers and Intrauterine insemination
Complete Fertility
I joined Complete Fertility when it was only running an IUI service. I then helped set it up into a fully-fledged NHS/Private IVF fertility unit.
I was lead nurse and I completed an USS course in fertility and embryo transfer.
My skills included:
- ›Nurse consultations
- ›IVF USS
- ›IUI
- ›Embryo transfers
- ›Assisting in oocyte recovery and on calls for the unit
I autonomously performed embryo transfers, USS and IUI. Venepuncture, cannulation and administering medication in recovery.
I was promoted to the clinical operations manager where I then became the main contact for complaints and managing the NHS waiting list with the admin team whilst continuing clinical duties.
At present I am nurse manager of an IVF unit.
